Applications Open for Seventh Year of IGNITE Programme
Belfast City Airport has announced that applications are now being accepted for the seventh year of its IGNITE Youth Leadership Programme.
The initiative is open to students aged 16 to 18 from across Northern Ireland. It is designed to unlock potential and build confidence by equipping young participants with the practical experience and skills required to shape their future careers.
Since its inception in 2019, the programme has exceeded its initial goals, having supported over 120 young people to date. Its popularity continues to rise, with the 2025/2026 intake seeing a record 34 students participate, reflecting the programme's growing reputation throughout the region.
Michelle Hatfield, Chief People and Marketing Officer at Belfast City Airport, spoke at the launch: "Since launching IGNITE in 2019, we have seen first-hand the positive impact it can have on young people across Northern Ireland. The programme has supported hundreds of students to build confidence, develop essential skills, and gain a clearer sense of their future career paths." She added: "At Belfast City Airport, we are committed to creating meaningful opportunities for young people from all backgrounds. IGNITE is designed to equip participants with the tools they need to succeed, while also providing valuable insight through learning alongside professionals from a range of industries."
Over the course of the ten-month programme, students will work towards an NLP Diploma in Personal and Career Development. The curriculum uses a hands-on approach, encouraging participants to step outside their comfort zones, develop leadership qualities, and network with both industry professionals and their peers.
Current participant Akshara Rakesh commented: "IGNITE has helped me recognise the qualities and skills I need to build a successful future. Learning from professionals across a range of industries has shown me just how transferable those skills can be, and it has given me greater confidence in my own potential. I would wholeheartedly recommend the IGNITE Youth Leadership Programme to anyone considering applying."
Another current student, Andrew Gemmell, noted the value of the connections made during the course: "One of the most valuable parts of IGNITE has been the friendships and connections formed along the way, which have really enhanced the overall experience. The programme has also given me new perspectives on my future and helped me started shaping a clearer career path."
