Chief Constable Boutcher Marks Day Of Reflection With Message Of Remembrance
PSNI Chief Constable Jon Boutcher has marked Northern Ireland's Day of Reflection on Sunday 21 June 2026, encouraging people to honour those affected by the Troubles. The observance aligns with a recommendation in his Kenova Report to use the longest day of the year as a moment for collective remembrance.
Chief Constable Jon Boutcher said: "One of my recommendations in the Kenova Report was to introduce a Day of Reflection on the longest day of the year. Today's Day of Reflection provides us all with an opportunity to remember the Troubles in Northern Ireland with dignity and respect.
"This deeply personal day also allows us also to recognise the suffering experienced by far too many in our communities.
"It's a day to reflect on and remember loved ones who are sadly no longer with us, and to acknowledge those who sustained life-changing physical and psychological injuries as a result of the past conflict.
"We pause to remember all those whose lives were lost, changed or forever affected by conflict and violence. I continue to regularly meet with families who lost loved ones and who suffered injury - they are all in my thoughts today, and always."

Members of the Northern Ireland Policing Board have given their support to the Healing Through Remembering (HTR) Day of Private Reflection – which will be held tomorrow. The Day of Reflection is being planned to help people make a commitment to a peaceful future, while also acknowledge the deep hurt and loss caused by the conflict.
