Magical Mournes Portal Opens For Week Of Events With NI Water
Guided walks, tours and family-friendly activities across the Mournes will run this week as NI Water joins Mourne Heritage Trust, the National Trust and local groups to showcase heritage, engineering and conservation.
A 'magical portal' to the mountains will open as the programme brings to life locations including Water Town and the iconic Mourne Wall.
NI Water will host an evening talk and walk on the area's industrial and engineering heritage at Silent Valley Mountain Park on Thursday 2 July.
There will also be guided tours of Fofanny Water Treatment Works, giving visitors the chance to walk around the site and discover the processes behind turning on the tap. Gary Presho, NI Water Area Supply Manager, said: "Mournes Week is a fantastic opportunity to open a window into the rich history, engineering achievements and ongoing conservation work that make this area so special.
"From the legacy of Silent Valley and the stories of places like Water Town, to the vital environmental work happening across the uplands today, we're proud to work alongside the Mourne Heritage Trust and other partners through Forever Mournes to help people connect with, understand and protect this remarkable landscape for generations to come."
