Two Men Arrested In NI Over Belgian Drugs Trafficking Offences

Officers from the Police Service of Northern Ireland's Local Policing Teams arrested two men yesterday, Wednesday 15th July, who are wanted by authorities in Belgium.

The men are to serve a four-year prison sentence for drugs trafficking, linked to offences committed in the West Flanders region of Belgium in 2021.

The first man, aged 36, was detained in the Omagh area, while the second, aged 39, was arrested in the Castlederg area by officers from Strabane Local Policing Team.

Both individuals were held on Belgian extradition warrants and are scheduled to appear at Laganside Extradition Court today, Thursday 16th July.

Superintendent Marty Reid Head of PSNI Extradition said: "These two overnight arrests are yet another example of the Police Service of Northern Ireland working with our partners to locate, arrest and bring before the courts those who are wanted for serious offences in Europe.

"The Police Service of Northern Ireland is committed to tracking down fugitives and supporting our European Law Enforcement Partners.

"We are increasingly engaged with the UK Joint International Crime Centre along with partners in Interpol and Europol to collectively deliver justice both here in Northern Ireland and abroad."

Two Men Arrested On Suspicion Of Kidnapping
Police have arrested two men on suspicion of kidnapping. The males, aged 33 and 31, were detained in Co L'Derry. It is believed there arrests are in connection with an incident in the city on Thursday, 26 October. No further details have been released.

Two Men Arrested In L'Derry On Italian Extradition Warrants
Two men have been arrested in L'Derry on Wednesday 4th December on Italian extradition warrants. The men, aged 67 and 29, are wanted in Italy to serve prison sentences for serious assault and child cruelty offences. The crimes allegedly took place in the Brescia area between 2015 and 2019.

Man Charged In Possession Of Heroin
A man is to appear in court charged in possession of heroin. Police arrested five people during searches of a property in Newry on Wednesday, 16 January. Two men have also been charged in possession of a Class A drug. A 50-year-old woman has also been charged with permitting premises to be used for the supply of a Class A drug.

Men Arrested In Connection With Right-Wing Extremism Released
Four men arrested in connection with right-wing extremism have been released. The men, aged 29, 30, 36 and 46, were arrested following house searches in Ballymena and Coleraine on Wednesday, 26 October. The men have been released pending a report to the Public Prosecution Service (PPS).
