Serving PSNI Officer Arrested Following Police Ombudsman Investigation

Investigators from the Police Ombudsman have arrested a serving PSNI officer on suspicion of misconduct in public office relating to alleged abuse of position for sexual purposes.

The arrest and accompanying search operation were carried out on Thursday 30 July 2026.

The operation follows a referral made by the Chief Constable to the Police Ombudsman in May of this year.

The allegations against the officer involve misconduct in public office concerning the abuse of their position for sexual purposes, as well as perverting the course of justice. This follows a referral made by the Chief Constable last year.

Seven police officers have been disciplined over an investigation into the death of Lisburn man Jim Heasley in October 2010. The 70-year-old was assaulted as he walked home from Lagan Valley Pigeon Club. An investigation by the Police Ombudsman found a series of failings in the initial police response.

Two Officers Disciplined Over L'Derry Assault Investigation
Two police officers have been disciplined for serious failings in the way PSNI investigated an assault which happened in a pub in L'Derry in June last year, according to the Police Ombudsman. The victim reported the incident to police and provided them with contact details for himself and a witness.
