Secretary Of State Urged To Rethink Closing Troubles Disability Scheme Applications
Sinn Féin MLA Carál Ní Chuilín says the planned end-of-August cut-off for the Troubles Permanent Disability Payment Scheme would disadvantage applicants and has called for a rethink.
Carál Ní Chuilín has voiced disappointment at the British government's plan to shut applications to the Troubles Permanent Disability Payment Scheme at the end of the month.
The North Belfast MLA said: "It was disappointing to hear that the deadline for applications the scheme will close at the end of August.
"I have been in contact with many constituents throughout the application process and this has been a deeply traumatic experience.
"Groups and organisations who have provided support have also raised concerns about the impact this process has had.
"This deadline puts many applicants at a disadvantage and I have written to the British Secretary of State urging him to reconsider his decisions. The processes needed to address the legacy of the conflict must not leave victims and survivors at further disadvantage."

Delays To Troubles Disability Payments Questioned
SDLP West Tyrone MLA Daniel McCrossan has expressed concern over continued delays in the rollout of the Troubles Permanent Disability Payment scheme. McCrossan revealed that 1,489 successful applicants had been identified as of early December 2023.

Pilot planning service scheme to speed up process
The DOE Planning Service has announced a further move to speed up the planning process, with the start of a pilot scheme to return all invalid planning applications. From 14 March, the Belfast Divisional Planning Office will return incomplete planning applications, together with the planning fee and an explanation of the reasons for return.
