Two men have been detained after a stabbing was reported in south Belfast on Wednesday evening, 12 August, the Police Service of Northern Ireland has said.

Detective Inspector Harvey said: "At around 7.30pm, officers received and responded to a report that a man had been stabbed in the Fitzroy Avenue area of the city.

"The injured man had sustained multiple puncture wounds to his chest and neck, and was bleeding from his left ear.

"He was subsequently taken to hospital for medical treatment for his injuries, which are not believed to be life threatening at this stage. "A man aged in his 20s was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, whilst a second man, also aged in his 20s, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, possession of an offensive weapon in a public place, and theft.

"They both remain in custody this morning, Thursday 13th August, as enquiries continue, and we would appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time and witnessed what happened, or who has any information which might assist, to contact us using our witness appeal form at reporting.psni.police.uk/appeals quoting reference number 1431 of 12/08/26 or call us on 101.
