NIE Networks And Women’s Tec Launch Fully Funded ‘Pathways To Energy’ Programme
NIE Networks has teamed up with Women's Tec to unveil Pathways to Energy, a fully funded 12-week programme aimed at encouraging more young women into careers across the energy sector. The initiative is open to girls and women aged 16–25.
Participants will attend one evening a week at Northern Regional College in Newtownabbey, receiving practical training in electrics. Some sessions will be delivered by NIE Networks training staff, with additional site visits to company depots to give real-world insight into the industry.
Kerri Pollock, Senior HR Business Partner, NIE Networks, said: "NIE Networks have been a #NotJustForBoys champion with Women's Tec for a number of years now and we are delighted to bring that partnership to life with a fully funded programme. Students will gain a practical understanding of what working in the energy industry looks like in real life with site visits to NIE Networks depots and our expert staff taking some of the sessions."

Graduated Driver Licensing (GDL) is designed to cut the disproportionate number of new — chiefly young — motorists involved in serious and fatal road collisions.

Police are appealing for information after a burglary at a disused leisure centre in the Brownlow area of Craigavon was reported shortly after 10.10am on Monday 17 August. Extensive damage was caused inside the premises, with repair costs expected to run into the tens of thousands of pounds.

27,000 Children Benefit From NI Childcare Subsidy, Says Givan
New figures show the Northern Ireland Childcare Subsidy Scheme (NICSS) supported 27,486 children in 2025–26 across 20,210 households, with £18.4 million paid directly to families. When combined with Tax-Free Childcare (TFC), the support is estimated to have generated £38.6 million in savings for working parents.

Economy Minister Dr Caoimhe Archibald has confirmed Tourism NI funding for the Belfast Mela as the multicultural celebration marks its 20th year. Running from 22–30 August, the programme will fill Belfast with music, dance, food and art, keeping the celebratory momentum going following the successful staging of Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann.
