Community Walks Connect Generations Across Causeway Coast and Glens

People of all ages have taken part in a new series of community walks across the region as part of a dedicated initiative delivered by Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council.

Walking Week, which took place from 3rd to 7th August 2026, was organised as a joint initiative between Age Friendly Causeway, the Walking for All programme, and the council's Sport & Wellbeing Development Unit.

Five community walks were staged across the borough in Ballycastle, Ballymoney, Coleraine, Limavady, and Portrush. The initiative gave local residents the opportunity to explore local outdoor routes, stay active, and build social connections despite challenging weather conditions throughout the week.

Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens, Councillor Dawn Huggins, commented: "It was great to see participants ranging from children as young as four right through to older adults enjoying the range of fantastic walks on offer – proving the intergenerational nature of walking.

"There's nothing better than getting out in the fresh air for a walk – it's a simple and accessible activity that people of different ages and abilities can enjoy together."

Colleen Martin, Walking for All Officer, said: "Walking is for everyone, and Walking Week gave people an opportunity to experience that first-hand. Whether people came along with family, friends or on their own, the walks offered a welcoming way to get outdoors, meet people and enjoy a local route.

"We hope those who joined us will continue to walk with us through the Walking for All programme and encourage others to get involved too."

Residents interested in joining a local Walking for All group or exploring further walking opportunities across the borough can find details on the Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council website, or contact Colleen Martin directly on 07704073437.
