Teenage Boy Charged with Dungannon Murder
Detectives from the Police Service of Northern Ireland's Major Investigation Team have charged a 16-year-old male in connection with the death of a man in Dungannon on Saturday, 29th August 2026.
The teenager has been charged with murder, two counts of attempted murder, and threats to kill. He is scheduled to appear before Omagh Magistrates' Court today, Tuesday, 1st September 2026. As is standard procedure, the charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.
Police initially responded to a report of an ongoing disturbance at a property in the Lisnahull Road area of Dungannon shortly after 10:55am on Saturday. Upon arrival, officers discovered the body of a 61-year-old man, alongside his 48-year-old wife and their eight-year-old daughter, both of whom had sustained injuries.
Responding officers administered immediate first aid at the scene before the woman and child were attended to by the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service and the Air Ambulance. The woman was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and has since been discharged from hospital. The eight-year-old girl, who was initially in a critical condition, is now reported to be in a stable condition in hospital.
A 16-year-old male was arrested at the scene. Detectives were subsequently granted a 36-hour court extension to question the suspect prior to bringing formal charges.
Mid Ulster District Commander, Superintendent Peter Stevenson, praised the rapid response of attending officers, stating that their actions provided the young girl with a vital chance of survival. He also extended sympathies to the family and confirmed that specialist officers, alongside relevant consular officials, are providing support to the wider family circle.
Police have reassured the public that they are not seeking any other individuals in connection with the investigation and that there is no ongoing risk to the wider community, though an increased police presence will remain in the area as enquiries continue.
Anyone with information that could assist the investigation is asked to contact police on 101.

Man Charged Over PSNI Pipe Bomb
A man has been charged over a pipe bomb attack on police officers in north Belfast last month. Police were responding to a 999 call in the Crumlin Road area of the city in the early hours of Tuesday 28 May when what is believed to be two pipe bombs were thrown as the officers stepped out of their vehicle.
