Police Appeal After 'Brutal' Gortin Assault Leaves Man Seriously Injured
Detectives have appealed for information after a man was seriously assaulted in Gortin on Sunday 6 September.
Detective Inspector Winters, from Omagh Criminal Investigations Department, stated: "It was reported that the man, aged in his 30s, was found lying on the Culvacullion Road at around 9.35pm.
"He had sustained a number of limb fractures, rib fractures and a head injury.
"At this stage of our investigation, we believe that he may have been abducted, assaulted by multiple people armed with iron bars and then thrown from a moving car.
"A vehicle was located on fire on nearby Rylagh Road a short time later. We are keeping an open mind, but one line of enquiry is that this vehicle may have been used by those who carried out this assault.
"This brutal attack will have left the victim with lasting physical and psychological trauma. There is no justification for this violence.
"Enquiries are continuing and we would appeal to anyone who may have relevant information, including dashcam or CCTV footage, to contact our team using our witness appeal form at https://reporting.psni.police.uk/appeals quoting reference 1547 of 07/09/26.."

Teen Arrested Following West Belfast Stabbing
A 17-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a man in his twenties was stabbed during a disturbance in the Suffolk Glen area of west Belfast on Sunday, 6 September. Police said the victim was taken to hospital, where he remains in a stable condition, and enquiries are continuing.

Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins has announced a £380,000 carriageway resurfacing scheme on the A5 in Omagh. The project, which covers Great Northern Road, the Derry Road Roundabout and Beltany Road, is scheduled to start on Monday 7 September 2026.
