Local buildings called on to compete with world’s best

Northern Ireland’s top new building projects are being called upon to enter a local awards scheme for the chance to go head-to-head with leading structures from around the globe.

The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) Northern Ireland Awards, launched today, which celebrate the best recent developments in the built environment across the Province, are open to entries from now until the end of December. The winners will go on to the RICS International Awards to compete with the very best projects across the world.

RICS Northern Ireland Awards judging chairman, Alex MacKay, said that the scheme is a perfect showcase for the diversity and creativity that exists in the built environment in Northern Ireland.

“The RICS NI Awards will select a winner in four categories: building conservation; regeneration; sustainability and community benefit, who will go on to compete in the RICS International Awards,” he stated. “Top class work is being undertaken in Northern Ireland to develop, regenerate and conserve the built environment. We look forward to recognising the skills of those involved and to seeing them pit their wits against major projects internationally.”

Judging will take place during spring 2005 before the awards ceremony in Belfast in April. The RICS International Awards event takes place in London’s Banqueting House on 7th October 2005.
