Shots fired at taxi depot in north Belfast
Police have said they are determined to tackle incidents of organised criminality with paramilitary links after shots were fired at the front a taxi firm in north Belfast at the weekend.
A number of staff narrowly escaped injury in the attack which occurred at premises on the Ballysillan Road shortly before 5am. A Proton car with a number of men on board drove off following the shooting.
A short time later a gold Proton car was found burning at Brae Hill Park in the Old Park area.
Saturday’s incident is the latest in a long line of attacks on taxi firms in north Belfast which are believed to be connected to a loyalist feud in the area.
Last week a taxi was petrol bombed in Ballysillan and one man arrested. A few days previous a number of vehicles were also burned at Carnan Street and Westway Gardens in the area. Subsequent police searches saw officers attacked with petrol bombs.
It is thought the incidents are linked to a feud between the Loyalist Volunteer Force and the rival Ulster Volunteer Force.
