Woman left ‘severely traumatised’ following sexual assault

Detectives in Belfast are appealing for information following a serious sexual assault in the Malone Road area of the city at the weekend.

Sometime between 1am and 4am on Sunday, a woman in her early twenties was assaulted in the grounds of a church at the bottom of Chlorine Gardens leaving her in a “severely traumatised” state.

Her attacker is described as being in his thirties, 5’ 9” tall, of average build with dark hair and a long face. Prominent laughter lines are also visible on either side of his mouth and it is believed he may have had a southern accent.

Detectives are appealing for anyone who was in the area of the church at the time of the incident and may have noticed anything suspicious, or may have witnessed the assault, to come forward as soon as possible.

They can be contacted at Musgrave Street on 028 9065 0222, or by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
