Pensioners targeted in six separate burglaries

Six separate burglaries on pensioners across Northern Ireland at the weekend have cast a shadow over today’s crime figures which claimed that burglary figures were continuing to fall.

In west Belfast, two robbers kicked open the door of a 75-year-old woman’s house in the Glencolin area at about 4.45am on Sunday. The men demanded cash before making off with her handbag which contained cash, a bank card and bank books.

The victim, who is paralysed down the left hand side of her body, was left uninjured but shocked in the incident.

In south Belfast, three men kicked in the door of a house belonging to a 100-year-old woman at about 2am on Saturday.

At around the same time an elderly couple in Ballymena woke up to find a masked man with his hand over the woman’s mouth before pulling her from the bed and demanding money.

Earlier on Saturday, four masked men held an 80-year-old man down in his home in Banbridge before demanding cash. In Newtownabbey, four intruders held down a 79-year-old man and ransacked his bedroom in the Glebecoole area at about 3.30am.

In Lisburn, a 75-year-old woman was robbed in her home after two youths wearing masks broke into her home at around 10pm on Friday.

A Metro bus driver has been robbed after three masked men boarded the bus armed with a screwdriver in the Monkstown estate, at approximately 19.00 on Tuesday. The gang demanded cash before making off to a woodland close by.

Two pensioners injured in separate burglaries
Two pensioners have been severely traumatised following separate burglaries at their homes in north Belfast and Co Down. A woman in her 90's was injured after three men forced their way into her home at Chichester Road in north Belfast. The masked men ransacked a downstairs room before making off with a sum of money.

Masked Men Steal Cash And Car From Pensioners Home In South Belfast
Three masked men entered a pensioners home in south Belfast and stole cash and a car. The incident occurred in the Ailesbury Drive area on Wednesday night. At around 10.30pm, a man answered the door of his home and three masked men entered and demanded money. They made off with a sum of money and also stole their silver Toyota Avensis.

Appeal Following Reports Of Aggravated Burglaries Across Newry
The PSNI have issued an appeal for information following a number of reports of aggravated burglaries in Newry. Detectives from the PSNI's Criminal Investigation Department are investigating six reports of aggravated burglaries of a number of homes on Friday, 13 September, between the hours of 7pm and 10.30pm.
