Co Armagh town cordoned off in bomb alert

Police have cordoned off part of a Co Armagh town after a suspicious device was discovered on Tuesday.

Army bomb experts are securing an area around Kinelowen Street in Keady following the discovery.

Detectives were alerted to the device after the Continuity IRA telephoned a coded warning to a Belfast newspaper on Monday.

At the time local people were urged not to touch anything suspicious following the warning.

St Patrick's Street in the town is also believed to be closed as a result of the security alert.

Elsewhere, two petrol bombs have been thrown at houses in south Belfast on Monday.

No one was injured in the attacks which occurred in the Breda Road area of Newtownbreda, however scorch damage was caused to the properties.

A police spokesperson said the investigation was in its early stages and that detectives were keeping an open mind as to the motive.
