Filling station workers locked in garage during armed robbery

Two filling station workers have been treated for shock after an armed man locked them in a garage in Co Londonderry.

The masked man who was armed with a handgun entered the petrol station on Desertmartin Road in Tobermore at about 10pm on Monday.

He forced the two staff members into the garage before making off with a sum of cash.

The assailant is described as being 6ft in height with a skinny build.

Meanwhile, police in east Belfast are warning elderly people to be on the lookout following a spate of robberies by bogus callers recently.

Men claiming to be from the Water Service have called at homes in the Clara Wood, Willow Home and Inverary areas over the last few days.

The individuals said they had to make checks, but when they left, residents noticed that valuables and money were missing.

Detectives have warned residents to always ask for identification before letting someone into their home.
