Five arrested in connection with counterfeit cigarettes

Five people have been arrested in connection with the seizure of counterfeit cigarettes in Co Armagh.

Officers from the PSNI's Organised Crime Unit arrested the two men and three women after 287,000 cigarettes were seized, along with a quantity of cash, ammunition and documentation during raids on Tuesday.

There are no further details at present.

Meanwhile, three men are due in court today in connection with the assault of a man in Londonderry at the weekend.

The 38-year-old victim was assaulted in the Rosemount area of the city at around 5am on Saturday. He is currently being treated at Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast where his condition is said to be critical.

The trio are due to appear at Londonderry magistrates court today.

22-Year-Old Man Jailed For Rape At Laganside Crown Court
A 22-year-old man has been sentenced to six years for rape at Laganside Crown Court. Ahmad Alsbaihi was sentenced to six years. He will serve three years in custody and three years on licence. He will be placed on the Sex Offenders Register and will be subject to a Sexual Offences Prevention Order (SOPO) for 10 years.

Two Men Arrested In £500,000 Drug Seiure In South Belfast
Two men have been arrested in connection with a £500,000 drug seizure following searches in South Belfast. On Friday, 01 March, detectives from the PSNI's Organised Crime Branch stopped and searched two vehicles in the Lisburn Road area. Class B controlled drugs were recovered from both vehicles which were also subsequently seized.

Three men have been arrested in connection with the seizure of millions of cigarettes during a police operation in Armagh on Thursday. The searches were part of a PSNI investigation into serious and organised crime linked to dissident republicans.

A man and a woman have been arrested in connection with a serious stabbing incident in west Belfast in the early hours of this morning, Wednesday, 10 April. Just after 2.45am, police received a report from our colleagues in northern Ireland Ambulance Service that a man had been stabbed in the St Bernadette's Avenue area.
