Gunman targets pensioner in Downpatrick

A pensioner has been left badly shaken after a gun attack on his home in Co Down on Sunday.

The 70-year-old man was answering the door of his house in Quoile Brae, Downpatrick, at around 9pm when a gunman fired three shots at him.

It is believed blank rounds of ammunition were used in the attack. However, the man's family say the incident is the latest in a series of attacks on their home following a break-in there earlier this year.

Police said they are keeping an open mind about the incident but have ruled out a sectarian motive behind the attack.

Detectives have appealed to anyone with information to contact them at Downpatrick on 028 4461 5011 or Crimestoppers 0800 555111.
