Minister opens Recordati Ringaskiddy plant
Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment Micheál Martin recently opened the new Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients Plant in Ringaskiddy, Co. Cork, for Recordati S.p.A., a European pharmaceutical group based in Milan, Italy.
The €28 million investment, which was announced in January 2003 and is supported by IDA Ireland, is part of Recordati’s strategy to grow internationally. It will involve manufacturing, an international marketing operation, customer support group and an R&D Centre. With 25 people already recruited, it is expected to employ over 60 people at full production.
Minister Martin said “This is an excellent example of the type of investment IDA Ireland is seeking to attract to Ireland as it combines R&D, manufacturing and support functions in a quality, high value operation. This investment continues Ireland’s success in attracting pharmaceutical companies that operate at the leading-edge of their business, both in terms of products and future developments. I congratulate Recordati for the speed with which they have made this investment a reality and I wish them well for a rapid build up and the success of this plant into the future.”
Recordati is dedicated to the research, development, manufacturing and marketing of pharmaceuticals and pharmaceutical chemicals.
The firm's products are used in several therapeutic areas which include cardiovascular, central nervous systems, anti-infective, respiratory, analgesia, gastrointestinal and gyne/urology.

Abbott To Invest €85m In Pharmaceutical Expansion

50 Pharma Jobs Expected In Co Waterford
A new pharmaceutical manufacturing company is expected to create 50 new jobs in Lismore, Co Waterford. The company, QM Specials, a subsidiary of UK-based Quantum Specials, has been granted a license by the Irish Medicines Board to produce a range of 'special' medicines.

The Tánaiste has announced pharmaceutical company Pfizer is to invest over €11 million in the establishment of an R&D facility in Cork. Pfizer, one of the world’s largest research-based biomedical and pharmaceutical companies will establish an R&D Kilo Technology Laboratory at its Ringaskiddy site in Cork.
