Body find not suspicious say police

The discovery of the body of a man in west Belfast on Monday is not being treated as suspicious, police have said.

The body of the man, named locally as John Masterson who is understood to be in his 50s, was discovered at Albert Street in the Falls Road area at around midnight on Monday.

Police initially confirmed that the man had suffered an injury and they were treating the death as suspicious. However, following initial findings from a post mortem examination, police confirmed that they did not suspect a crime. Police had previously cordoned off the area around two houses in west Belfast following the discovery of his body.

Elsewhere, a pensioner has been left in a state of shock after being tied up during a burglary at his home in Co Antrim.

The incident occurred at the 69-year-old man's home on Vow Road, Ballymoney, late on Monday night.

Two masked men armed with hurley sticks entered the house and searched the property before fleeing with two legally held shotguns. The victim was not injured during the incident.

The assailants are described as being in their 20s and about 5ft 10ins in height.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 0845 600 8000 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
