Man being questioned over Omagh bombing

A man is still being questioned by detectives in connection with the 1998 Omagh bombing in which 29 people died.

The 34-year-old was arrested in the south Down area on Tuesday.

It is the latest arrest by police in connection with the bomb attack.

In September, a 36-year-old man was committed for trial for the murders of the 29 people killed in the 1998 Omagh bombing.

Sean Hoey, of Molly Road, Jonesborough, denies the charges and others connected to other Real IRA attacks including one in 2001. A date for the trial has not yet been set however Belfast magistrate Desmond Perry said the south Armagh man had a case to answer on 58 charges.

Mr Hoey originally appeared before a court in May to hear he would face 61 new charges linked to the bombing as well as the 29 charges of murder.

Twenty-nine people were killed and hundreds injured in the car bomb attack in the Co Tyrone town on 15 August 1998.

The bombing, which was later claimed by dissident republican paramilitary group the Real IRA, was the worst single terrorist atrocity in Northern Ireland.
