Man to face trial over loyalist murder

A man has been remanded in custody, charged with the murder of Roy Green during what is believed to be a loyalist feud in 2003.

Iain Rea, 35, from Annadale Crescent in Belfast appeared in a court today, accused of fatally shooting 32-year-old Roy Green outside the Kimberley Bar close to the Ormeau Road in South Belfast.

Mr Rea was also charged with possession of four guns, rifle parts, cartridges, plastic explosives and a detonator, with intent to endanger life and having the items in suspicious circumstances.

A further charge alleged that he had imitation firearms with intent to cause fear of violence.

He has been remanded in custody and will face trial at Belfast Crown Court on a date yet to be fixed. He is expected to make an application for bail at the High Court.

It was claimed at the time of the murder that the victim was killed by UFF elements as he has been an associate of ousted former UDA 'C-company' leader Johnny Adair.
