Man attacked during armed robbery in Newtownabbey

Detectives in Newtownabbey have appealed for information following an armed robbery last night.

Shortly after 8pm, a financial collection agent, who had just got into his car in a car park in the Ballyduff area of the town, was approached by two masked men, one armed with a handgun and the other brandishing a hammer.

One of the men proceeded to smash the windscreen of the car, showering the victim with glass before pulling him from the front seat. The attackers then searched the man, before making off with a sum of money and a black holdall.

The victim sustained minor cuts and was left badly shaken during the ordeal.

The robbers are described as being around 5' 10" in height, of medium build and both wearing dark coloured clothing.

Police have asked for anyone who may have witnessed the incident or have any information in connection to it, to contact them on 0845 600 8000, or on the Crimestoppers number on 0800 555 111.

A man is being questioned by police following an armed robbery in north Belfast on Monday. At around 7am two masked men, one of whom was armed with a handgun, entered a shop on the Ardoyne Road. The two men proceeded to steal a sum of cash and cigarettes before leaving.
