Lagan body not thought to be suspicious

Police have revealed that the death of a man whose body was recovered from the River Lagan yesterday was not suspicious.

The body, believed to be that of a man in his 30s, was spotted yesterday morning by rowers in the Stranmillis area of south Belfast.

Police divers were tasked to the area, where they found the body, which was lying under a tree, partially in the water.

A police spokesperson today revealed that a post-mortem examination has been carried out and a crime is not suspected.

Meanwhile, the body of a woman found yesterday in Warrenpoint harbour has been identified.

Police have not released the woman's name, however she is thought to have been in her late 40s or early 50s.

Detectives have confirmed that the circumstances surrounding her death are also not believed to be suspicious.

Post mortem due after suspicious death
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a man whose body was found in west Belfast yesterday afternoon. The body of the man, who has been named locally as Philip Thompson from the Woodvale area, was discovered close to the Ballygomartin River, off the Forthriver Road, at around 3.45pm yesterday.
