Man remanded over Belfast murder

A 45-year-old man has been remanded in custody charged with the murder of a man on Tuesday morning.

The body of the victim, who has been named as 47-year-old Patrick Madden, from the Carrick Hill area of the city, was found in the Oldpark area of north Belfast.

It is understood that Mr Madden had attended a party at the house the previous evening.

Patrick Mooney, from the Antrim Road, was arrested on Tuesday and today appeared before Belfast Magistrates Court.

A detective told the court that when charged, Mooney pleaded "not guilty," and added that he had continuously denied the charge throughout the three days of intensive questioning.

He was remanded in custody, to reappear before the same court on July 28.

A 46-year-old woman, who was also arrested on Tuesday, was released last night pending a report to the Public Prosecution Service.
