British Airways to end Birmingham route

British Airways has today announced that it is to bring an end to its flights between Belfast and Birmingham.

The flights, which currently run four times a day are due to be stopped from August 21, and British Airways have said that all passengers who have already booked flights beyond this will either be given a full refund, or booked on an alternative flight with another company.

It has been reported that the route is to be discontinued due to disappointing numbers of passengers using the service.

This will mean that BA's only existing route in Northern Ireland will be from Belfast to Manchester.

A spokesman from British Airways today said: "Passenger numbers on the route have been extremely disappointing and despite our best efforts we see no prospect of passenger levels improving in the near future."

He added that BA have to act in the best interests of the company and therefore have no option but to withdraw from this route and concentrate on developing our operation in other areas.
