Man attacked by gang in north Belfast

Police in north Belfast have appealed for information following an attack on a man yesterday evening.

The incident happened at around 9.30pm, when a 27-year-old man was attacked by a gang of up to five males close to the junction of Duncairn Avenue and the Antrim Road.

The victim was taken to hospital where he was treated for injuries to his head and face, which are not believed to be life threatening.

One male was arrested in connection to the attack, however has since been released on police bail.

One of the attackers is described as being around 5'5 in height, and was wearing white tracksuit bottoms and a cream coloured jacket.

A second assailant is said to be around 5'11, and was wearing blue jeans, white trainers and a white or cream coloured jacket.

Police have said that a racial or sectarian motive is not suspected, and have asked for anyone who may have any information relating to the incident, to contact them on 0845 600 8000 or anonymously on the Crimestoppers number on 0800 555 111.

Police Officers Disciplined For Failing To Tell Doctor About Woman's Head Injuries
Two police officers have been disciplined after they failed to let their colleagues and a police doctor know that a woman had sustained a head injury, a Police Ombudsman investigation has concluded. The woman died from bleeding to the brain on 24 February 2014, the day after she suffered the injury.
