Two injured in separate weekend assaults
A man is in hospital being treated for stab wounds to his chest after an attack in Glenville Park, Whiteabbey, on the outskirts of north Belfast.
The assault took place just before 1pm on Sunday.
A 36-year-old women from the Whiteabbey area has been arrested and is helping police with their inquiries
In Londonderry, an elderly shopkeeper was viciously assaulted during a robbery at his Glenview Avenue shop at around 10.15pm on Saturday.
The man had a wooden block thrown at his face – leaving him with a gash above his left eye which required hospital treatment – when four people entered the shop and unsuccessfully tried to open the cash register. The attackers also beat the man with a walking stick with which he had attempted to defend himself.
The thieves are all described as being 5ft 6ins in height and of slim build. All wore balaclavas while one wore a blue coat and two had black coats. It is believed that they were all in their late teens.
Detective Constable Eddie Bell described the assault as “a vicious attack on an elderly member of the community” and urged the public to help detectives.

Murder Charge Follows Omagh Stabbing
A woman has been charged with the murder of a 37-year-old man in Co Tyrone. The victim was stabbed in a flat on Hospital Road in the Omagh shortly after 3am on Monday. The 36-year-old woman is due to appear at Strabane Magistrates Court on Thursday morning.

Man Shot In County Down
A 28-year-old man has been shot in the leg in a gun attack in County Down. The man was getting out of his car at the Quays in Killyleagh at about 1.00am on Wednesday morning when a man approached him and shot him. The man is recovering in hospital where his injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

A man has been shot in the ankle in Co L'Derry. The paramilitary-style attack happened near the Creggan shops at around 7.45pm on Thursday, 07 December. The 41-year-old man has been taken to hospital to be treated, however his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. Police described the shooting as "brutal and horrific".
