George Best £5 notes released by Ulster Bank
The limited edition George Best £5 bank notes have today been released by the Ulster Bank to mark the first anniversary of the soccer legend's death.
Customers queued outside banks from before they opened their doors at 9am in order to ensure that they were the first to get hold of the newly pressed commemorative notes.
One million pounds worth of the £5 notes are now in circulation throughout Northern Ireland.
The notes are available to purchase at any Ulster Bank branch in Northern Ireland or can be purchased online at www.georgebestfive.com

New NI Bank Notes In Circulation
New bank notes have been released into circulation in Northern Ireland. The £10 and £20 notes are being issued from Danske Bank and will gradually replace the existing Northern Bank notes. The design of the notes remains the same, the only difference is the Danske Bank logo has replaced the Northern Bank logo.

Three Arrested in Newtownabbey Over Counterfeit Bank Notes
Police have arrested three individuals this afternoon, Monday, 23 June 2025, in connection with the use of counterfeit bank notes in local businesses. Officers from the PSNI's Auto Crime Team stopped a vehicle near the Sandyknowes Roundabout in Newtownabbey, leading to the arrest of two men, aged 39 and 20, and a 15-year-old boy.

The Ulster Bank is to introduce new plastic £5 and £10 notes in Northern Ireland in 2019. Production is to begin later this year and designs are to be unveiled in the coming months, according to the bank.

Northern Bank Becomes Danske
Today the Northern Bank officially becomes Danske Bank. The new name comes from the bank’s Danish parent and will see branches across Ireland, Norway, Finland, Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania adopt the new title.
