Police investigate Bangor shooting
A mother and her child escaped injury last night after a gun attack on their Co Down home.
At around 10pm, a shotgun blast was fired through the window of the house at Balligan Gardens in Bangor. Both mother and daughter were asleep in an upstairs bedroom at the time.
Police recovered a spent cartridge in a follow up search.
The SDLP's Liam Logan condemned the shooting as part of the province's "unique gun culture". He also demanded tougher legislation to be introduced to tackle gun crime and called for fewer gun licences to be issued.
Mr Logan said: "Luckily there was no one in the living room of this house when the shots were fired through the front window. Otherwise today there may have been much more serious consequences.
"People in the North do not want such a gun culture."
Police have appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
