Security alert in Crossmaglen ends

Two men believed to be from the Dundalk area have been arrested following a security alert caused by two mystery packages in Crossmaglen.

The village square was closed and the area was cleared due to the alert.

Police said that Army Technical Officers had been called to Crossmaglen to investigate two suspect packages discovered on Monday evening. They are understood to contain the proceeds of burglaries.

Two schools - St Patrick's Primary School and St Joseph's High School - remained closed today due to the security operation this morning.

The alert has now ended.

Crossmaglen Security Alert Continues
A security alert is continuing in Crossmaglen this morning following the discovery of a suspicious object. On Wednesday, a device, understood to be a beer keg, was found left close to a north-south electricity interconnector. The discovery followed a telephone warning that a bomb had been left in the Co Armagh village.

L'Derry Security Alert As Firearm Found
The Whitehouse Road in L'Derry has been closed due to a security alert after a firearm was discovered in the area. Police closed the route at around 7.45am this morning, Tuesday 15 January, and diversions are in place. Officers are currently examining the weapon.

Security Alert Ongoing In L'Derry
The Lecky Road in Derry/L'Derry is currently closed due to an ongoing security alert. The nature of the security alert has not been made clear but the road is closed between Free Derry Corner and Brandywell Road. The Lecky Flyover is also closed from the junction of Charlotte Street. Motorists have been urged to avoid the area during the alert.

Residents Evacuated During Ongoing Security Alert In L'Derry
Residents have been evacuated from their homes during an ongoing security alert in Co L'Derry. The Rossdowney Road is currently closed at Montgomery Close. SDLP Councillor Martin Reilly said the alert is causing "significant disruption" for residents in the area.

Security Alert Launched In Co Tyrone
The PSNI have launched a security alert in Dungannon, Co Tyrone. A suspicious object was discovered in the Fairmount Park area on Wednesday, 17 January. The road has been closed and a number of residents have been evacuated from their homes. No further information has been released.
