Armed robbery at County Down home

Detectives in County Down have appealed for information following an armed robbery yesterday evening.

The incident happened at around 8.50pm, when up to six masked men, a number of whom were armed with shotguns, broke into a house on the Old Course Road area of Downpatrick.

A woman and her two daughters, aged 17 and 20, who were at home at the time, were bound at the wrists by the men, who demanded that they hand over money.

The robbers remained in the house for about 40 minutes and before eventually making off with a quantity of cash - barricaded the women into a small downstairs bathroom.

The victims, who were badly shaken but uninjured by the incident, managed to free themselves, before raising the alarm.

Police have asked for anyone who may have witnessed the incident or anyone with any information in relation to it, to contact them on 0845 600 8000, or anonymously on the Crimestoppers number on 0800 555 111.
