Man in court over Tyrone stabbings

A 20-year-old man has been remanded in custody, in connection with a series of stabbings in a County Tyrone.

Christopher Hugh James Kelly, a joiner from Minterburn Road in Caledon, has been charged of five counts of attempted murder after his alleged involvement in the attacks where four people were wounded.

Kelly, appeared at Strabane Magistrates court for the hearing, which took place this morning. A psychiatrist assessed him after he was taken into custody.

Detective Constable Gary Vance told the court he could connect Mr Kelly with the attacks, and also confirmed he did not know any of the victims.

The injured men have been named as Tony Carmichael, Wesley Canning, Simon Gibson, Ian Beatson and Brendan Donaghy.

It is believed the men were workmen fitting a convenience store in the village.

Mr Kelly is set to appear again at Dungannon Magistrates Count on March 14.

Arrests Made At Traffic Collision Following L'Derry Burglary
Police responding to a road traffic collision in L'Derry last night, Wednesday 20 March, arrested two men in connection with an earlier burglary in the area. At 23:55 last night, police received a report of a collision on Gortinure Road involving a black Audi TT. The vehicle was found abandoned in a ditch.
