Man sentenced in Gran Canaria

A County Antrim man convicted of the manslaughter of a Nigerian prostitute in Gran Canaria has been sentenced to 14 years in prison.

Vincent Traynor, 22, from Loughguile had denied killing 23-year-old Stella Omeregie in July 2005.

The woman’s body was found on Cochino beach, and the court heard she had been beaten about the head and strangled.

Mr Traynor was also ordered to pay the woman’s family 85,000 euro.

He has already served two years in prison on remand.

22-Year-Old Man Jailed For Rape At Laganside Crown Court
A 22-year-old man has been sentenced to six years for rape at Laganside Crown Court. Ahmad Alsbaihi was sentenced to six years. He will serve three years in custody and three years on licence. He will be placed on the Sex Offenders Register and will be subject to a Sexual Offences Prevention Order (SOPO) for 10 years.

53-Year-Old Dies In Custody At Maghaberry Prison
A 53-year-old has reportedly died in custody at Maghaberry Prison, the Northern Ireland Prison Service has announced. The Department of Justice has reported that the prisoner died on Saturday 28 August, that his next of kin have been informed and that the death was not covid related.

Man Dies In Maghaberry Prison
A 22-year-old man has died while in custody at Maghaberry Prison, the Northern Ireland Prison Service has reported. The Department of Justice has confirmed that the man died in custody on the morning of Thursday, 30 August. The man's next of kin have been informed. The PSNI, Coroner and Prisoner Ombudsman have been informed about the death.
