Traders to attend 'tiger robberies' seminar

A seminar is to be held this evening in Londonderry to give advice to traders on the threat of “tiger robberies”.

The meeting follows a spate of raids where families had been held hostage, as money is handed over to armed gangs.

Last month, an 87-year-old woman, her son and her daughter were held hostage by an armed gang in their Londonderry home.

The family were held hostage at gunpoint overnight, and the daughter was then ordered to remove cash from the post office where she works in Ballymagroarty.

She was then forced to drive over the border to Donegal where the cash was handed to another gang member.

The seminar will be held tonight at Derry’s City Hotel.
