Pensioner knocked to ground during robbery

Detectives in Newtownards are appealing for information following a robbery at Main Street, Ballywalter.

A 70-year-old woman had been making her way from Ballywalter Bowling Club to Ballywalter at around 4pm on Monday 4 June when a man approached from behind and tried to take her handbag.

The woman fell to the ground during the struggle and was dragged for a short distance before the man managed to get hold of the bag.

She suffered cuts and bruising, and a police spokesperson said she was badly shaken by her ordeal.

It is understood the robber made off in a blue Subaru Impreza car that had been stolen during an overnight creeper burglary in Newtownards between 3 and 4 June.

Police in Newtownards are asking for anyone who may have witnessed the incident or have any information to contact them on: 0845 600 8000 or alternatively on the confidential Crimestoppers number: 0800 555 111.
