Patient In Ten Day Wait For Neck Operation

A man who fell from scaffolding and broke his neck has spent ten days in hospital waiting for an operation.

Sean Paul Doran is being treated at Belfast’s Royal Victoria Hospital and was told that he needed surgery to insert metal rods in his neck.

The Royal Hospitals Trust said that Mr Doran needed specialist surgery that was complicated due to a pre-existing condition and that patients with life-threatening injuries would be given priority.

However, Mr Doran’s sister Charlene from Portaferry, County Down, said she has been given a series of excuses and that their whole family are going through agony because of the delay.

Ms Doran said that the first explanation that was given for the delay was that two surgeons were needed for the operation and the hospital only had one available.
