Two Bodies Found In Lough Erne Search

Rescue services have found the bodies of two men who drowned following a boating accident on Lower Lough Erne in County Fermanagh.

Divers found the bodies of Declan Swift, 47, from Enniskillen and Martin Steel, 48, from Mullaghdun in County Fermanagh.

The accident happened close to Devenish Island at around 12 noon on Saturday when they took a new 16ft boat out to fish.

A woman on a nearby cruiser witnessed the accident and saw one of the men being dragged down by the weight of his fishing gear and she immediately rang the authorities.

A PSNI helicopter and an Irish Coastguard Rescue helicopter from County Sligo were immediately sent to the scene and a major search operation was soon underway.

The Lough Erne Coastguard Rescue Team, the police launch ‘Lady Grey 2’ and the Enniskillen inshore lifeboat were all sent to the area and police dogs were also tasked to carry out searches.
