Teenager Injured In Belfast Cliff Fall

A teenage boy has been taken to hospital after he fell nine metres from a cliff in west Belfast.

The 15-year-old, who is recovering in hospital, had to be rescued by the Fire and Rescue Service using specialist ropes to bring him to safety.

The incident happened in the Colin River area on the Upper Springfield Road. Assistant group commander David Hayburn said it was a tricky operation because the location was “inaccessible”.

Mr Hayburn said they effected a rescue by means of a line rescue down a cliff face. The boy’s injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
