Progress On Armagh City Centre Scheme
Armagh City and District Council recently revealed that plans to overhaul Ogle Street are still underway.
The proposals, which include the introduction of a one-way traffic system for the street, are part of the comprehensive Environmental Improvement Scheme set to transform the City Centre.
Dawn Park, Council Urban Regeneration Officer, said: "There has been speculation recently that plans for Ogle Street have been put on hold and we'd like to emphasise that this is not the case. There are several difficult issues around the re-development of Ogle Street, with traders on the street divided about the shape the new scheme should take. However Ogle Street remains an integral part of the overall scheme and the Council will continue to liaise with all Ogle Street businesses in the decision making process.
"Proposals for the rest of the City Centre have already been sent to the Planning Service. The Council has decided to lodge a separate planning application for Ogle Street, which will be submitted shortly. This application will propose Ogle Street becomes a one-way system, however without a decision on the direction of traffic flow. Separating the applications in this way will ensure targets for the other 10 streets in the scheme are not delayed or jeopardised, whilst at the same time progressing plans for Ogle Street."
In all 11 streets are due to undergo a major facelift thanks to the regeneration project, which has been earmarked to begin in January 2008.

Last Week To Use Spend Local Cards
With the High Street Scheme set to close at midnight on 19th December, the Economy Minister Gordon Lyons has urged anyone with funds remaining on their card to "use it now". The Minister said: "Time is running out. There are just days left before the scheme closes on 19 December.

Road Works To Get Started In Belfast
The Department for Regional Development will start work on a number of junction improvements in Belfast city centre next week. The improvements on Grosvenor Road/Durham Street and Hope Street/Great Victoria Street are part of the Belfast On The Move Transport Masterplan which will give higher priority to public transport, pedestrians and cyclists.
