Parents Challenged After Teenage Stone Throwers Attack Motorist

Ulster Unionist Assembly member David McClarty says parents must take responsibility for their children and know where they are at night.

He was speaking following a stone throwing attack on a motorist in Coleraine.

Mr McClarty said: "The victim could have been even more seriously injured had she not been able to maintain control of her car. In light of what could have happened, this was a life-threatening attack and parents of children who are carrying out such actions must make it their business to know what their offspring are up to when they are out of the house."

The incident is only one of a series of similar incidents when stone throwers in the Kyle’s Brae area of the town have attacked cars.

Mr McClarty added: "Not only are lives being put at risk but the damage to vehicles is costly and this type of incident cannot be allowed to continue."

The MLA has appealed to anyone who can help police with their enquiries to get in touch with them immediately.
