Minister Meets Southern Counterparts
Employment and Learning Minister, Sir Reg Empey, will today meet with his Republic of Ireland counterparts in Dublin.
He will meet with the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Micheál Martin, and the Minister for Education and Science, Mary Hanafin, to discuss a range of matters of mutual interest.
Speaking ahead of these meetings, Sir Reg said: "Working closely with my Irish counterparts is of great importance for the future well being of the economy on both sides of the border. There are already many examples of good co-operation in the employment and higher and further education fields and I will be seeking to build on these through effective working partnerships."
The Minister added: "In particular the meetings will focus on a sharing of ideas on key common issues such as the fostering of innovation and research projects, development of workforce skills and cross-border co-operation on Higher and Further Education matters."
The future management of migrant workers on both sides of the border is also expected to be among the main topics of discussion.

An 'education in the community' programme aimed at improving educational achievement for young people has been praised by Education Minister Peter Weir. Mr Weir was visiting Monkstown Boxing Club to meet pupils who have taken part in the ASPIRE programme, developed by Abbey Community College in partnership with the club.
