Police appeal after two armed robberies in Co Antrim

Police are appealing for information following two robberies in the Newtownabbey area within 24 hours.

At around 11.30am this morning, three masked men entered a post office in Doagh, outside Newtownabbey. One man was armed with a handgun and another with a hatchet. The third man threw a concrete block through the counter screen and demanded cash from staff.

The robbers assaulted an elderly customer before making off with a large sum of cash.

The culprits escaped in a green Mazda, registration NIW 4655, that was later found abandoned in Anderson Park, Doagh. They then transferred to a white Cavalier.

Less than 24 hours beforehand, two men armed with a knife and a handgun robbed a shop on the Doagh Road.

The men entered the shop on the Doagh Road at around 6.30pm yesterday evening and threatened staff. They made off towards the Rathcoole estate with a sum of cash

The first robber is described as 5ft 8" tall, of medium build and was thought to be in his late teens. He was wearing a pale coloured quilted type jacket and pale coloured track bottoms.

The second man, who was also in his late teens, 5ft 7" tall and of medium build, was wearing a navy coat and dark coloured trousers.

Man Wanted In Lithuania Arrested In Magherafelt
The PSNI have arrested a 23-year-old man in Magherafelt wanted in Lithuania to face charges of human trafficking. The man was arrested by officers from the Police Service's local policing team in Magherafelt, with assistance from the International Policing Unit. Death Of Kilkeel Man Being Treated As Murder
A murder investigation has been launched following the death of a man in Kilkeel. On Thursday, 21 March, police received a report of a concern for safety for a couple at a property in the Newcastle Road area of the town shortly after 12.50pm. On arrival, officers located the body of a man who was unconscious and not breathing.

Body Of Missing L'Derry Man Found
The body of a man found off the coast in Donegal is of missing L'Derry man Anthony Griffiths, Gardai have confirmed. Mr Griffiths, 59, was last seen near Doagh Famine Village just after midnight on Tuesday, 30 August. His body has been airlifted to Letterkenny Hospital. Gardai thanked the public for their assistance.

The PSNI have welcomed a two-year Stalking Protection Order (SPO) handed down to a 46-year-old Belfast man at Belfast Magistrates Court. The man had been found guilty of stalking and harassing his 50-year-old female ex-partner.

Man Jailed For Manslaughter Of David James Conville
A 31-year-old man has been jailed at Belfast Crown Court for the manslaughter of David James Conville in south Belfast in May, 2022. Edward Kelly was sentenced to serve three-and-a-half years, half of his sentence will be served in custody and half will be served on licence, following his guilty plea last November.
