Police fire shot during robbery in Newtownards
A man has been arrested following an attempted armed robbery in Co Down yesterday.
Police fired a single shot during the robbery attempt which occurred at Oldcross Street on the Portaferry Road area of Newtownards at around 7.30pm yesterday evening. No one was injured in the incident and the man is now helping police with their enquiries.
There were also two other robberies in Belfast last night.
At around 6.30pm, two armed men robbed a shop in Newtownabbey, Co Antrim. The men, armed with a knife and a handgun, robbed the shop on the Doagh Road and make off with a sum of money.
Meanwhile in north Belfast, a man armed with a knife made off with an undisclosed amount of money after robbing a video store on the Cavehill Road. The incident occurred at around 8.30pm.
Police have appealed for anyone with information on any of last night's incidents to come forward.

Police received a report shortly before 11.30pm on Saturday, 17th February that between 10pm and 10.30pm on the same evening, five masked men entered a house in the Saintfield Road area.

The suspect threatened a member of staff and made off with a sum of cash and cigarettes. He was arrested on Wednesday, 28 February, and has been detained in police custody.
