Delay In 'Slab' Murphy Case

The case against leading republican Thomas 'Slab' Murphy has been delayed by a week, due to the discovery of a "large amount of documentation".

Mr Murphy, 58, from Ballybinaby, Hacksballscross in Co. Louth, has been charged with nine alleged revenue offences under the Taxes Consolidation Act. It has been alleged that Mr Murphy failed to make full tax returns in specific tax years.

The delay was granted by Judge Flann Brennan at Dundalk District Court on Wednesday and the case has been adjourned until next Wednesday in order to allow the book of evidence to be prepared.

The judge also refused an application to relax a bail requirement for Mr Murphy to sign on every day at Dundalk garda station, but said that he would consider it in the future if Mr Murphy continued to comply with it.

Gardaí had opposed any change in bail conditions.
