Development 'Exclusion' Zones For Airports
Property development restrictions for the area near both George Best Belfast City Airport and Belfast International have been introduced to protect those on the ground from potential airplane crashes.
The revised public safety zones are being introduced at major UK airports and are designed to limit damage and casualties in the event of an aircraft overshooting the runway.
There is now a presumption against further development in an area covering part of the Oval Football Ground, some houses and the old Mersey Street School, as a result.
Making the announcement, Assembly Environment Minister Arlene Foster said: "The basic objective is that there should be no increase in the number of people living, working or congregating in these areas and that, over time, the number should be reduced as circumstances allow.
"Although the risk to people on the ground as a result of an aircraft accident is low compared with many other risks that most people face in their daily lives, it is necessary to ensure that appropriate precautionary measures are put in place for areas close to the ends of busier runways."

Bereaved Families Pay Tribute To Tragic Cookstown Teens
Families of the tree tragic teens who died in a crush at a St Patricks event on Sunday have paid tribute to their lost loved ones. The young victims, 16-year-old Connor Currie, 17-year-old Lauren Bullock and 17-year-old Morgan Barnard, died after the incident at the Greenvale Hotel in Cookstown on Sunday 17 March.
