Killer Road Toll Rises

Death is again stalking the roads in Northern Ireland, as a man became the 102nd person to be killed.

His death followed a collision involving two vans near Loughguile in County Antrim, between Ballymena and Ballymoney.

The fatal accident happened at the Ballyveely Road's junction with the Pharis Road at about 11.20am this morning. The victim has not yet been named.

Police have appealed for anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact officers in Ballymoney.

Meanwhile, the death earlier today of a 29-year-old woman injured in an accident in County Armagh at the weekend meant the grim toll hit had already topped the 100 mark.

Jennifer Cassidy was injured in the crash on Chapel Road, Bessbrook, at about 6.40pm on Sunday.

A mother of two from the village, it is understood her car crashed into a lamp post beside the Camlough Park housing development.

Police have today renewed their appeal for witnesses to the accident to get in contact with them.
