International Drugs Operation Nets Four

A man is due to appear before Newry Magistrates' Court charged in connection with the seizure of heroin worth over €3 million in Co. Louth last week.

The man, who was arrested in Banbridge in Co. Down, is charged with the unlawful importation of Class A drugs and the supply of Class A drugs.

The man was one of four people arrested as part of an international anti-drugs operation involving the PSNI, Gardaí and the Dutch police.

The heroin was seized in a jeep near Collon in Co. Louth on Friday. The 27-year-old man who was driving the vehicle was arrested at the scene, while a 45-year-old man was arrested after he was stopped on the M1 south of Dundalk.

The 27-year-old man was remanded in custody at Navan District Court on Sunday, charged in connection with the drugs seizure, while the 45-year-old was released and a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

A 24-year-old man was also arrested in Dublin on Sunday as part of the same investigation. He was arrested on a European Arrest Warrant, issued by Dutch police, in connection with the seizure of heroin worth €6 million in Rotterdam six weeks ago.

A 43-year-old man has been arrested in connection with an incident at a house in Coleraine, Co L'Derry. It happened at a property on Knockantern Grove in the Mountsandel area on Tuesday, 16 August. The suspect has been arrested on suspicion of possessing of an offensive weapon with intent to commit an offence and assault on police.

Man Released On Bail Over Lurgan Murder
A man arrested in connection with a murder in Lurgan on Sunday, 06 August, has been released on bail pending further enquiries. The body of a man, aged 45, was discovered at a flat on Victoria Street. Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.

Three men arrested in separate drugs finds
Three men have been arrested following separate drugs finds in Belfast and Co. Londonderry on Monday. A 38-year-old man was arrested following the discovery of drugs, worth an estimated £50,000, in east Belfast. He was subsequently charged with being in possession cannabis with intent to supply following the drugs seizure at Garnerville.
