Service Sector Jobs Fair For Waterfront

The local service industry sector is to get a boost next month with a planned jobs fair.

Jobseekers will come face to face with some of Northern Ireland's biggest service industry employers at the Waterfront Hall, Belfast.

Taking place on February 7, the GEMS NI Jobsfair 2008 will see 50 employers including IKEA, Tesco, Asda, New Look and TK Maxx searching for new staff.

Part funded by the Department for Social Development and Belfast City Council and supported by The Department for Employment and Learning, the event will run from 10am until 6pm.

Event Organiser, Anne Downs, from GEMS NI said: "The Jobsfair is an excellent opportunity to showcase Belfast as a retail, tourism and hospitality centre of excellence and is an ideal opportunity for companies recruiting and those seeking employment to meet face to face."

Councillor Michael Browne, Chair of Development Committee Belfast City Council, one of the funders of the event said: "The Council has been working with GEMS NI since its inception in engaging with employers in offering job opportunities, as well as, support and mentoring to Belfast citizens in accessing these jobs.

"The Jobsfair is a great opportunity for both employers and jobseekers alike."

Skillsmart Retail has been working closely with organisers to make sure that retail has a strong presence on the day.

Tory Kerley, Northern Ireland Manager of Skillsmart Retail, said: "With some huge regeneration projects underway in Belfast and a strong home grown independent sector, retail growth is continuing to make a significant contribution to our local economy."

"There are some fantastic job opportunities available at every level, which means that this is a great opportunity for any young person or job changer to consider the wide range of possibilities that a career in the service sector could provide."
